Logic Problem

?% | 1

I know I have a lot of problems floating around that are unsolved. Though I found this problem, and it is too juicy to not post it.

I'm sure it is easily solved if you can just organize it properly. Though it is not an easy thing to do.

Here is the problem:

On a certain street in a certain town, there are five houses in a row. The five houses are five different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The five owners each drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage. In addition, the following facts are known:

  1. The Brit lives in the red house.

  2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.

  3. The Dane drinks tea.

  4. The green house is on the left of the white house.

  5. The green house's owner drinks coffee.

  6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.

  7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.

  8. The man living in the center house drinks milk.

  9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.

  10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.

  11. The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.

  12. The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.

  13. The German smokes Prince.

  14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.

  15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

First task: Who owns the pet fish?

Second task: Can you prove it?

Alright, your right. this one isnt easy.

I did it twice and realized that I have gotten two different answers based on asumptions.

but so far this is what I've gotten and believe me when I say I'll will get this sucker down.

First house is yellow.
Norwegian lives there and smokes dunhill and drinks water.

Second house is Blue with the horse.
The Dane lives there drinking tea and smoking blends.

Third is red, brit lives there drinking milk.

Forth is white. Guy who lives there smokes Blue Masters and drinks beer.

Fifth is green who drinks coffee...

alright, it isnt much... but you wait.

Re: Logic Problem

You have some inconsistencies.

For one, the green house is "right" of the white house. Understandably, I could just be looking at it from the wrong side. So with the assumption that "right" is "left" in mind, then it says the first house has Norwegians. And the right-most house does not have Norwegians.

According to me "first" and "left-most" are synonymous, so if "right" is "left", then the Norweigians needed to be all the way on the right side.

Otherwise, everything you say seems right. However, we must make sure everything fits before we can say for sure who has the pet fish.

Also, if it helps, saying that someone is "left" of someone else doesn't necessarily mean they are the left-most neighbor.

You're almost there though.
