That's a very interesting concept you've touched upon. If you are interested in reading another expanded take on this idea, I very strongly recommend The Story of B by Daniel Quinn. I'm not going to try and paraphrase it - partially because I don't remember it too well. :p It's been a while, and I think I'll read it again soon. But it is a facinating exploration of the nature of human communities, and it deals with population expansion.
