Lately a question about something with IKEA arose with me. I decided to write an e-mail to them today because we'll about to get there on saturday. Browsing the site I glimpsed a new service item: A chat that is open from 8.30 to 12.00 am. I thought: How cool, I will try it and it really convinced me. By opening the chat window, the name and a picture of "my" carer were viewed on top. I wrote and some time later I got the answer I was looking for. It seemed as Andrea, the carer, was very well informed and had time only for me.
Sure, I know, I could've phoned, but that would 1. cost and 2. the chat solution seems more personal, I really liked it. What a pity I don't have more questions to ask.
Though IKEA is not always a 100% top but this service really rules!
I hope people don't think I'm strange 'cause I'm being so enthusiastic about that ;)

My respect for you just got even higher if that's possible. I too have a small problem/addiction to furniture.
I actually think the whole system sounds like a really good idea, and am about to tell my mother all about it :) she does the marketing for her company so I'm sure she'll be thrilled.

Companies such as HumanClick have been selling this for some years.
Of course the HumanClick software doesn't come with cool furniture :-)

Interesting. I would think a phone call is more personal, hearing a voice, rather than text, but I guess that's my definition :)
I agree with you that the chat is a neat idea. We'll have to check it out to see about the buzz.
I guess this is just one more reason why IKEA is so cool. I too am smitten by the Sweedish "life style maker" company, much to my own surprise.
At first, I didn't know what an IKEA was. I thought it was a cult, to hear my partner, and sister, and step-mom, and whomever talk about it. But once I visuited the store, I could see the attraction. I think what really does it for me is that many of the things in there are well designed, or at least well thought about. They are full of nift.
They have program that allows one to design a kitchen, or other room. On Windows 98, it didn't work, but with Win XP it did. That imporvement is the one singular reason my roommate enjoys XP.

Actually, I'd prefer the chat too, because it is slower and it gives you more time to think inbetween pieces of conversation.

I agree. I prefer to write, simply because I'm better at it...and it does give one a chance to think.
But I was just commenting on which is more personal. I thought it interesting that a computer chat would be considered more personal. Perhaps this is a sign of the information age where text is the new voice, and a real human is impersonal.
