First of all - reset your admin password. Look on the net for ntpasswd floppy or similar tool. ( http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ )

Second - read this : http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

"Life is a queue. You come in, hang around for a bit, get some service, then depart."

I tryed both steps one and two on the site you said to read. for the 1st step, i downloaded the program, but it wouldnt let me install. it got to about 90%, and then had a pop up saying,"Error 1304. error writing to file. C:/windows/system32/powertoyreadme.htm. verify that you have access to that directory."

for the second step, i got all the way to making a new "Dword value". when i attempted to do juat that, a popup told me "Cannot create value: error writing to the registry."

soooooooooooooooo....
im really confused.

"Cannot create value: error writing to the registry."

You can't do these things (install stuff into the Windows directory / change system-wide settings) unless you're an administrator, so this is some kind of a chicken/egg problem.

You want to use the password reset disk at http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ first to get a valid admin password.

By the way, good grammar and a capital letter every now and then go a long way in this place.
