Ink for my body

60% | 2

Some weeks, or months(?) ago I got interested in tattoos. One of my best friends made three years ago but I didn't really think about it being something for me. Well somehow yes, but I didn't follow it further. But now I've been to the tattoo artist (he really is an artist - want to check his page?) twice for now. He is strange and I assume he thinks I am a total dork because of my choice of motive and my indetermination.
Anyway I'm not so sure yet if and after all I really fear the pain! The sound of the tattoo machine is awful!
Well I'll keep you informed but first of all I want to know: NAOees confess! Who of you already got one or more tattoes and who is a tattoo virgin but wants one! Tell me! :)

I got a tattoo. Nothing special really, just some so called "tribal" lines, but at a quite exposed spot, on the left side of my neck below the ear.

I got it done in '98 or '99 I guess it was. Pain? Mmmh.. it was painful, yes, but the guy told me I choose one of the most sensitive spots on the body, cause the skin is actually very thin there, yet quite well provided with blood and nerves. Still it was not too much pain, I could easily stand it, and I'm not much of a hero, when it comes down to pain really.

I got it done in a very, very spontaneous action... driving through the streets of Kreuzberg, coming by a Tattoo shop, stopping, walking in and getting it done... 1 hour from the first idea to having it done. There have been a few tries to find a psychological explanation for it (why would someone do something like that?), but I wont bother you with it. Fact is, I love it! There hasn't been a single day, when I would be wishing it away. On the contrary, I will soon find me another shop to have it refurbished, may be even enhanced, since it seems to be of lower quality really, cause its getting a greenish look meanwhile after being all black with shadows in the beginning.

But its strange how people approaching me changed since having that tattoo. Since its always visible, it somehow changed the image of what people want to see in me. People, who knew me without it, were surprised, sometimes pitied me, most times laughed about the "typical Martin". For me, there are only few moments, when I'm actually aware of it. Most times, when I'm talking to someone and see his/her eyes moving down to the side of my neck. Sometimes it would be topic of talks ("Didn't it hurt?", "Why there?" and stuff), but strangely enough many people try to watch at it somehow secretly, without attracting my attention, almost as if they're feeling awful and disgusted about it.

The most interesting part of it is, how this small tattoo actually changes, who I am in the eyes of people getting to know me. You can learn how people prefer prejudice over common sense, even people you would never expect it of. Have a visible tattoo, wear a black leather jacket, drive a motorbike and you must be a brutal, sottish antisocial, who eats kids for breakfast. Of course thats the extreme, but there's a touch of it in every new person I get to know. And somehow I learned to love that role, I love to surprise people, I love to be underestimated and to always have something in the bag people don't expect of me. It's so strange how this Tattoo - especially in business life - makes people think to be a cut above. Believe you me, in the long run its not the worst thing to be underestimated...

I have a tattoo along the side of my left foot which reads "All is Full of Love"

it really wasnt that painful. i mean i wont lie, it did hurt, but only enough to sort of do a quicker intake of breath. no need for tears, and i dont remember swearing loudly or anything. those epilady hair removal things hurt way more.

Yeah, what a way to start into the weekend :) Yesterday at 6 pm I had the appointment with the tattoo guy and took null with me. And now I have it shining on my back. Well there's a plastic on it and it's still healing but I'm looking forward to look at it when it's "finished". It quite hurt, oh yes but I could bear it because he took a pause every seconds to wipe away ink (and blood?). I think it would have been way harder if he didn't pause. Anyway, I didn't tear or scream, I just had to breath deeply. But someway in the middle I started to produce cold sweat and felt a little dizzy and sick. I thought I will have to stop the procedure but then it got better. The most surprising feeling was not to feel my arms and hands anymore. They were completely dead. I've never felt something similar. That's because I had to sit on this hard chair and my arms on the lean, well it must have stopped my blood from floating into my arms.

It's been done in half an hour. I thought it being longer. It din't hurt anymore and I've been really proud :) I still am :) Cool experience....

:) Congratulations! See... the pain wasn't too hard to bear, was it!

But... but... what do you actually have there on your back now? Will we get a picture of it once its healed? Null, ready the cam and do the shot! ;)

(Btw... thx for the XMas wishes!)

It's still hidden by a protective plastic foil, but me & my cam are ready!

Well, considering what happened to some other items entrusted to the German postal guys, above all I'm glad they came through :-)

She's lying. It's a black skull with BORN TO KILL tattooed on her left shoulderblade.
