A friend of mine told me that he used to belong to a church Choir. He loved doing that more then anything. A while back though, he got arrestested for possession of drugs and was sent to prison for 2 years. He told me that he had reformed his life while in prison and vowed never to sell drugs again. After he was released he went to the church, only to get strange stares by everyone. He asked if he could rejoin the Chruch choir and the people refused to let him back in.
When i heard this story I was at first heartbroken. I mean isn't the whole thing Jesus taught his people was forgiveness? It is strange to me that an organization that preaches unconditional love, forgiveness, and kindness can be so hypocritical when a situation comes where what they preach should be practiced. Sometimes I think that those who are religious (or claim to be) are little more then all talk. I hope everyone can and will share thier thoughts
Peace
Well, "church" is a human invention. Jesus never preached about church or anything close to "appropriate places to worship God." They only gathered in the catacombs to hide from persecution.
In fact, you'd be exactly right in my opinion to say that they are all hypocrites. I'm sure if Jesus returned, I'm almost certain that he'd never set foot inside a church. More likely he'd preach outdoors or any place of beauty.
Unfortunately, "church" nowadays means social gathering, and I firmly detest such mentality. This means, like in any social caste system, there are "clubs" which only the supposedly "pure christians" can join. This in of itself is hypocritical. Anyone can be a follower of God, according to Jesus's preachings, and I'd be willing to bet that this openness extends to choir groups as well.
But in this world of evils, this is such a minor thing that I doubt people will ever change themselves. To be a true christian, one has to practice, and part of the practice means not to judge others (including the judged). With that said, I suppose I've not been such a great christian with this post. :P
If the world should blow itself up,the last audible voice would be an expert saying it can't be done
I have associating churches with buildings. Showoff architecture and lots of gold and other expensive decorations inside. Almost a
vanity fair.
I prefer to consider church as a community or family, because it throws away all that material matters. It does not matter what you wear when you go to the church, or if you go there or drive by car. Or how much money you donate.
Dressing better or donating more does not make you a more devoted man. Or rather it shouldn't make you feel better than others. Because in our society - it unfortunately does.
"Life is a queue. You come in, hang around for a bit, get some service, then depart."
Sadly, I wish I could say that this story was true, but uncommon. I can't say this because I grew up in the bible belt and I saw it all the time.
While I appreciate religion, I don't appreciate the church. Frankly, I don't appreciate many organizations as they all inevitably lead towards group-think: the destroyer of the individual, eliminator of freedom, and the ignorance of reality.
Let me guess, the guy did 2 years for possession of marijuana?
