Potential outage

?% | 1

I'm posting this early enough so people who don't log in daily will have a chance to read it.

As me & Honeybunny move to Liechtenstein, our beloved NAO living-room server will of course move with us.
Unfortunately, while a rich country and blessed with low taxes, in terms of digital communication Liechtenstein is sort of a developing country. It's only today that I can even start to request hi-speed internet (and, quite probably, for twice the hassle & money I pay here).

This means that NAO might or might not be offline for a couple days in the course of the next two weeks.

No data will be lost, the server is fine, it's just offline for a while.

More info whenever something happens.

Wow, I didn't know you were moving. Where are you going? Very far from the old place, or not at all? Now that I had learned the road to get there... you guys move somewhere else :P

Update

I'm writing this on a 4kB/s mobile connection, so forgive me if I'm brief -

The NAO server will be taken offline on Wednesday around 18:00 UTC. If all goes well there's a "NAO is temporarily offline" page.

The hardware at the new place is ready, and the server will be back online as soon as Telecom FL

  • manages to get our phone line back up (it died after one day and is still down)

  • processes our DSL order, and

  • sends me the login data.

Phew... so I'm happy you're not moving to Germany, otherwise that would mean a 6 months+ outage...

Good luck for your move, guys!

After decades of construction my website is finally up an running: www.kkds.de

Heh, check this out: 160 bucks a month for a phone line + ADSL 6000.
There's a lot to say about T-Online, and not all good, but when they screw up at least they do it cheaper :-P

I hope that the currency is not Euros :P We pay 38 € a month for phone and ADSL 4000. Only thing that is not covered by that is if you call a cell phone or if you call abroad (which doesn't happen, because we use an international card, dialling an Italian number though).

At any rate, as Martin said, good luck on your new place... You still didn't tell us where you're going to be :)

Re: Update

Nope, in Euros it would be around 100 bucks. (Which is still about twice the money I spent in Switzerland.) The good thing is that I can take my Swiss VoIP phone with me and at least keep my Swiss number with the usual free/cheap calls in Liechtenstein.

You still didn't tell us where you're going to be

Oh, but Liechtenstein isn't that big! In case you're planning to visit us, let me know and I'll draw you a map (but you gotta promise that you won't hold it upside down, get lost and then complain that there's something wrong with it when I come to pick you up).

Re: Potential outage

So the server is still offline but of course connected to my private LAN, which means that for the time being I've got NAO all to myself. Aah, the joys & privileges of being a server admin.
On the other hand, it's kinda boring here.

Anyways. If you can read this I suppose NAO is back on the Intarnets (which, if all goes well, should happen sometime on the 15th). Soo, welcome back, thanks for waiting, and feel free to post something!

Re: Potential outage

Yup, one day early. But I can take it offline again until tomorrow if that's a problem for you :-)
