The life-saving paradigms

71% | 2

Hi,

I'm aware of the Gaia paradigm.. It states that Earth is alive along with its inhabitants. Although I does not believe it as it is (doesn't mean I'm against it!), I think this is a good modal for saving our earth. A lot of things we do (all types of pollution, deforestation, driving animals out of existence etc..), are against what Gaia theory stands for. The part I believe is, even if earth is not alive (may be its just crust, mantle and core!), but the awareness that this paradigm creates is very valid and requires immediate attention (i'm glad, some like global warming started getting attention). The solving of this problem can be of different ways, Gaia paradigm is not alone in this cause. There many similar ones, like 'co-existence paradigm' etc..

"Hasn't there always been global warming, cooling, more warming (from the Annuals of Ideas v. Politics by smashedmotif)."

What is this global diminishing? The global diminishing that is about how the sun's rays aren't warming the planet as needed due to all the cloud cover in our atmosphere.

Is it true, are we headed for a global freeze?

I like the Japanese animation Mononoke and the other alligory Naussica, of the Valley of Wind.

Re: The life-saving paradigms

I'm not sure about is it really warming or 'freezing'.
Interesting isn't it, Most of the universal phenomena are predicted sometimes to go up to the pinnacle and then down to complete a cycle (an argument that, following the 'Big Bang' there is a 'Big crunch'). So now the period is of 'Global warming' with increasing awareness towards it around the globe.
I don't think it's time to worry about a 'Global freezing'. Most of the scientists and environmentalists are now after the Global warming. Latest IPCC reports (Feb '07) also are concerned about this. IPCC reports published in February 2007 reveals that the effect of global warming is mostly due to various human activities in this planet (with a probability of over 90%!). Hence what we should be concerned about is, alternative technologies and countermeasures for this fatal phenomenon.
Global warming is largely due to the emission of greenhouse gases (major greenhouse gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.) The increased CO2 emission and deforestation when combined cause serious problems towards the weather conditions of the planet.
The alarming fact that - even if we stop emitting CO2 now, the global warming will continue at least for 2-3 centuries from now, has increased the awareness towards reducing the CO2 emission, re-forestation and other measures to reduce the CO2 content from the atmosphere.
Some measures to reduce emission so far in practice, like 'carbon credit system' might have helped; but the effectiveness of this system is debatable due to 'loop holes' in the international treaties.
p.s. An interesting observation - 141 countries have signed the Kyoto Protocol (which formalized carbon credit/carbon trading) by the end of 1999. But United States of America stayed out of it, which is a highly industrialized country and is responsible for a large part of the greenhouse gases emitted worldwide. And one of the two 'carbon trading' exchanges, is in Chicago, USA. However many American states and companies are members of the 'Chicago Climate Exchange'.

Re: It IS all about LOVE.

it hurt my ego to think that the only person who responded to me when I wrote my post on the same subject, just wanted to disprove the theories.

If I would of been a member on netalive back when you posted your theories, I would of appreciated them and thanked you for your contribution. Just so you know, ya' know.:-D

Re: The Hado and Gaia Theories

This is a really neat post and the information is exciting and interesting to know. I wish I would of stumbled upon this earlier.

Thank you for your excellent contribution.

Wow. I haven't been on here in soooooooooooooo long... It's crazy that people are still reading it, even though I posted the topic back in 2005. Maybe I'll start getting back on more often.

Breathe.
