In one of the ct issues this year there was some babble about so called 'Ethernet-Flachbandkabel' (i.e. ethernet flat cables). Right now I'm in search of that stuff, but not only that, I need more information about it. The regular sources weren't (Google, Wikipedia) weren't that helpful :-/
Eg. is it as reliable as standard CAT5- or CAT6-cables?
And of course I want to know: Where to buy it? Right now I found only one source for Germany, which doesnt make me happy, cause it's PEARL, a low-budget dealer during the 90ies and today, they dont look much better. Suggestions anyone?
Why do I need this? The PC is located in the office (room), the router is in the living room - also there's a neat .. uhm .. lets call it wall strip, that thing you add where the floor panels hit the walls :D .. under which a cable would fit quite nicely. Also it has to run along a threshold, thus I dont want to trip over the cable every time I enter the room. So there must be something really flat ;)

I assume there's a reason why you don't want to use WLAN?
Yep. Right now, I need a simple, proper working connection. No time for fumbling around with Atheros chipsets etc. Also, I dont want to invest into new hardware.
I've already got a WLAN solution, but I'd like to use this for other stuff, like setting up some tiny WLAN-based sound solution or a living room multimedia-station. Of course, all of this not based on crappy windumb ;)
But right now, as I said before, I need a proper, stable, working LAN connection.

Well, Disdata has flat Cat5 cables. Search for article 695710 (clear the other search fields by hand or the search won't work). Great service, reasonable prices and fast delivery inside Switzerland and Liechtenstein; outside I don't know.
Consider yourself hugged.
