Tea

?% | 1

Recently I've been enjoying self-brewed, "not in paper bags"-prepared .. tea.

I've been using this paper-bag type tea stuff for at least 10 years by now, and I'm also very being used to do so.

In Russia and all the close-by countries like Ukrainia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and all the other former states of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), tea is a traditional and favorite beverage. There, you wouldnt (and still dont) use anything like filter bags or even proportioned mini-paper bags to brew tea, but put the leaves directly into the can, before you would pour in the steaming-hot water.

Right now, I've tried out three kinds of pure-leaved chinese tea:

a) Tea enlabeled "Mango Tea" - very fruity, mango-y, strong black tea. Perfect for drinking it "English style", ie. with milk and sugar.

b) "Sow Mee Tea", which I rather dont like. Tastes too much like my most disliked kind of tea, ie. Ceylon-something mixture.

c) just an hour ago I tried out the tiny can enlabeled "Orchid Tea", which tastes somewhat earthy and smooth. The perfect day either before going to bed or for a light breakfast ;)

Note: I'm also a big fan of Earl Grey, but my decent into good tea hasnt been long yet.

So, what are your preferred kinds of tea? What would you suggest? There are probably other forms of brewing tea, too.

Re: Tea

I love tea! I like brewing it in a seperate pot, which I belive is the English method of tea preperation.

I heat the water seperately and then use a tea ball to put in a tea pot and let I let it steep for a bit, depending on how strong I want it, and then sit back and relax.

My favorite comes from the Republic of Tea. The english breakfast tea is good, but I'm not all too crazy for the irish breakfast tea. I suspect that if I added some Baliey's Irish cream it would be better.
The other types I like from the republic of tea when I can get them is the children's tea which is alot of dried fruit and herbs, it's sweet and smells like home when it's brewing.
Always makes me want to make cookies or something good to eat with it.
Celistal Seasonings is good tea and if the bag bothers you, you can always take the tea out and disgard the bag.

Here are some of my other favoirte teas from Celistal Seasonings
Pepermint
Cranberry Cove, which I can't find here. Without sweetening, it's tangy, and with a bit of honey or sugar it's something like drinking really good tart fruit that is warm.
Red Zinnger and Lemon Zinger tea. Both of thoes are quite tart and sugar mellows the tartness, but either way I like them.

Cinnamon Orange tea from the San Franscicso tea company is good. It needs no sugar because it's already sweet. It has no sugar in it so how it ends up so sweet I don't know.

I've tried ginger peach which I can't make peace with, no matter how many times I try it.

At the moment I have been enjoying wild berry zinger. It's another one of thoes teas with tang.
I would like to try some Kava tea. I've heard that the effect of it is alot like drinking without getting fuzzy headed.
It's suppose to taste like dirt or something, but I want to try anyway.

Licorice tea isn't bad, but it's strong. If you like black licorice then you'd like it.
For me it's a once in a while thing.

You can always add herbs or spices to loose tea to make your own blend. Dried fruit is good too, preferablly fruit that hasn't been prepared with preserving agents.
Hope this has been helpful.

Well .. this is probably the common European method of brewing tea. I dont know of any other - what kind of total freaked-out nut-case would .. uh .. boil the tea leaves in hot water together and then still suggest to drink it or even more awful, ask others to do so?!? 8o

I heat the water seperately and then use a tea ball to put in a tea pot

If I havent mentioned it before, I'm using the Russian method: Just by inserting the pure tea into the can, without a tea ball or strainer. In older cans, there's still this sieve technique built into their nozzle (ie. inside of the can over the hole that leads to the nozzle).

Other options of preparing tea: Brewing an extract and filling it up with additional hot water (I guess that's the turkish and arab version involving a samowar-like looking can).
