Is there any Mac-specialist among us?
It's just weird: This noon I decided to pursue my favourite obsession: NAO. So I went to the computer working places at university. They're having this nice, sophisticated new Macs null uses to call table lamps.
First I tried IE. Oh it was horrible: The whole NAO stuff, the posts, were caught on the right side whereas 90% of the rest of the site were empty. Weird.
Then I tried it with Netscape. The usual board on the ledt (where you can chose Users, Login and other options) was to be found on the bottom of the site. Plus, the style was different: The letters were typed in Times New Roman!
How is this explainable?

I have a simple explanation: Macs suck.
Sounds like a rather unfounded opinion in my ears. Macs are some of the most sophisticated computers money can buy. If they weren't so expensive I would get myself one tomorrow.

I know, I know... I was kidding.
I was actually very impressed with OSX. The mac operating system is superior to windows in many, many ways. And mac hardware is superior to PCs in some ways as well, BUT without the software support, a mac is worthless. Great for Photoshop though.
The best thing about macs is that they are so easy to upgrade: you just throw out your current machine and go buy a new one.
^ More humour.
BUT without the software support, a mac is worthless.
That's right. Adding to the already expensive hardware is the cost for software. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but Macs don't have as much freeware or shareware available for them as Windows has, so you literally have to pay fifty dollars for each of the most basic tools, from text editors to FTP clients.

Internet Explorer for Mac has half-assed support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) which are used for styling this site.

Netscape 4 is an old browser with no CSS support at all. Thus the site displays without style, but it's still completely usable.

ReallyCoolDude *** (7) throws in his two cents...
Ever since I saw a Mac I wanted to buy one. But they were pretty costly, so I never got to buy it.
Later on, when I did some research on it, I found out that their operating systems were not even multi-threaded. They did not have any multi-tasking at all. It was only last year when they released OS X (or was it in 2001?) that they introduced multi-tasking and multi-threaded environment.
This fact made me believe that they are far behind windows in that matter. Only the outer looks are not everything. Yes, maybe when Microsoft and Apple started, Apple made better code and had better quality then Windows, but I believe that now, other OSs (Unix-variants, Windows 2000, XP, etc.) are much better then a Mac. I am not even sure if OS X is stable at all.

I thought it was a well known fact, that Mac OS X is based on Linux? didnt you know that?
so there's no discussion about OS X' stability. it's obvious, thats its very good. but ONLY thanks to Linux development, AND NOT to Apple Macintosh!

Well, I had no idea about this. Even if this is the case, I still will not go for a Mac, when I can buy a Dell Laptop with a better configuration for 1/3rd or 1/4th of a price of a iMac.
But, I would definitely like to know more about the differences of OS X with other Unix variants. I would appreciate it if anyone can name some?
