I think that if people thought a little more and spoke a little less, and only after having well thought about what to say, things would go much better.
I am not referring to anything in particular, but in general. People sometimes tend to give their opinion on everything, and they don't care about hurting other people.
I am obviously pro the right to speak your mind as you wish, but at the same time I think that there must be a sort of "canonical form" to do that.
You can write your opinions and your feelings without resulting insulting to other people. Sometimes, even a silly thing can hurt the others, so I think that you should try as far as possible to be "soft", polite and considerate when you express your opinions.
I am not talking about the recent happenings on the site, or anyway not only about them. My conviction is that in your life you always have to respect the others and their ideas, and even when you can prove that they are wrong, you should play your cards without tricks, being polite and gentle.
This is the right key to access to people in my opinion anyway.
Un bacio è un'apostrofo rosa scritto tra le parole "ti amo".
I agree completely, and I don't think you should be afraid to say that it has been because of the two (2) posts that have been put up recently, both featuring hot headed people.
The truth is that it's easier to be rude over the internet because it is anonymous. I can't really know the intent or the meaning behing somebody's post because I cannot tell the tone they are writing this all in. I'm not saying anybody was rude intentionally, but stopping to read what you have written before you post it might remove some misunderstandings.
If you can't see anything wrong with it, post it. If you think that you might get upset with reading this by somebody else's hand, don't post it, but try and think how this could be written as non offensively as possible.

I think NAO is one of the most unanonymous place on the Net. We even arrange meetings to get to know each other better. Through the page we also have the opportunity to share opinions.
Our posts here on NAO are also very personal. I often thought, my God, the people here know a lot more about me than some friends in real life and when I finally met them I was a bit afraid of this... Anyway, it shows us that we're a community where one know the other very well...
There are just a few people who seem not to get on well with NAO's purpose and philosophy so there origin occasional "fights".

If somebody doesn't fit in NAO's "philosophy" does this person get flamed?
Yes! And I can tell you, why. There have been some users who behaved far beyond the netiquette here.
Take this:
HAHAHA.... I look good in red.
Wanna bet that 1st rating is red. Come on people I need another rating before I can see what it was.... hahahahaha...... I'm so bad!
I could mention a lot more of this. Maybe the author thinks it is really funny or sarcastic but IMHO I don't think a comment like this belongs to NAO. It goes below the belt line. And this was no new user! It was someone who belongs to NAO for a long time and never showed that strange and slightly hurting attitude before.
Another one of the relatively old users behaved similar when we had the big rating discussion a year or so ago. He never really got into the posts the other users made and went on unbelieving blindly.

... and also during the whole time the meeting was going on? ;) because, you were so quiet nearly all the time ...

Metal has no laws. Metal is the law.
She's quiet most of the time. Only in bed when the lights are off and I'm falling asleep is it that the words keep flowing and flowing! :-P
On a completely unrelated side note, oxygenius, if you're still interested in that CD I'd be glad if you could give me your snail mail address. It would greatly improve your chances to get the CD. :-)

Ah, you're talkin 'bout me, uh? :-)
Well I already warned you, oxygenius, I am more than quiet in real life. I need a very long time to defrost :-) Talk to me through the Internet, otherwise it won't work ;-)
Null, I'm really sorry about this attitude, but I try hard :-)

Although I am not too regular in replying to the posts or starting another topic because few of them are total technical or are about something about which I don't have any clue. But I do love reading the topics discussed here. From the day I have been regular on this site, I have become almost addicted to it. Daily morning I check for new post and the same I do in night.
But during last few days I really felt bad about whatever was going on here. Although there is freedom of speech so everyone can cast their opinion without abusing anyone, still it created so much tension among other readers. But I really appreciate that things looks better now.
I would like to quote a few lines of Kabir (Kabir ranks among the world's greatest poets. In India, he is perhaps the most quoted author, with the exception of Tulsidas. Kabir has criticized perhaps all existing sects in India, still he is mentioned with respect by even orthodox authors)
"[a=http://www.kabirweb.com/dohas/kd4.htm]
Aisee Vani Boliye, Mun Ka Aapa Khoye
Apna Tan Sheetal Kare, Auran Ko Sukh Hoye[/a]
Translation
Speak such words, sans ego's ploy
Body remains composed, giving the listener joy
[a=http://www.kabirweb.com/dohas/kd11.htm]
Kabira Khara Bazaar Mein, Mange Sabki Khair
Na Kahu Se Dosti, Na Kahu Se Bair[/a]
Translation
Kabira in the market place, wishes welfare of all
Neither friendship nor enmity with anyone at all"
There are not just these sayings but a hundreds by the other saints too. And which if practiced in our daily life the life would be so beautiful.
Thanx
